Obsolete Bank Notes
I have a $5 note of The American Bank of Providence, Rhode Island which has a riverboat vignette in the center. There are some letters on the cover of the paddle wheel which I am trying to read. They appear to be "SNASSOM?". I cannot read the last letter. Can anyone help me? I wondered if it is the name of the boat or the name of the engraver. The same vignette is on a Cass bank note of Michigan, which has no writing on the paddle wheel cover. I checked Haxby and did not find any help.
Thanks for any comments!
I have now looked with a different magnifier and found it says "WASSOM" I believe this is the name the engraver gave the boat. I also checked the "Early Ships and Shipbuilding on paper money byDr. John Muscalus. He did not list this name. However, I do know that he did not list all as I found the "Arkansas" on a $10 Exchange Note.
