Our lifetime achievement award goes to R. Shawn Hewitt for his continued service and support of the SPMC, not only for successfully serving as President for four years, but his continued efforts to coordinate and maintain the Society website. Shawn has authored A History & Catalog of Minnesota Obsolete Bank Notes & Scrip and more recently has researched and published data on Large Size Pre-Star Replacement Notes and Large Size Replacement National Bank Notes.
Dr. Glenn Jackson, a dentist, was SPMC member #540. He was a prolific exhibitor and author on Engravers and Vignettes. He won the SPMC Julian Blanchard Exhibiting Award a record five times. The Board of Governors named the award for the best article related to engravers/vignettes, the Dr. Glenn Jackson Literary Award. He was the initial winner of the SPMC Best-in-Show Exhibit Award in 1979. The society also award him the Nathan Gold awarded in 1979.
Barbara Mueller joined the SPMC in 1964 as member #464. She served as Editor of Paper Money for 17 years, in two stints, 1965-1976 and 1978-1984. Besides being editor, she was the author of 46 articles published in Paper Money. She also served the society as Librarian for 16 years, from 1968-1973. She was awarded SPMC Awards of Merit in 1967 and 1976 and the Nathan Gold award in 1984. The society named her an Honorary Member #7 in 1970 and later Honarary Life Member #2.
John Rowe III of Dallas, Texas is a long-time paper money collector and dealer. He is member number #306 joining in 1964. He was a long-time advertiser in Paper Money, from 1964-1990. He had a special interest in Texas Banknotes and donated his extensive research collection to the DeGolyer Library on the SMU campus in Dallas in 2003. As a long time friend of Amon Carter, Jr., he was enlisted to sell Mr. Carter's banknote and ephemera collection after Mr. Carter's death in 1982. He was one of only six dealers who attended every IPMS in Memphis--40+.
