Minnesota Nationals: Number of Unknown Towns Reduced To Eleven

The recent discovery of a first charter ace on The First National Bank of St. Anthony, Minnesota (charter 1830) adds a new town to the list of known locations of national bank notes from Minnesota. Now only eleven locations that issued these notes have yet to be represented. No other banks were chartered in the short history of St. Anthony. Charter 1830 has a special place in the history of Minnesota national bank notes. It began its life in 1871 in St. Anthony, located on the east side of the Mississippi River across from Minneapolis. 2011 Higgins Museum National Bank Note Seminar

The event, set for Aug. 10-11, will feature presentations by four nationally recognized authorities in the field: Mark Anderson, president of the Society of Paper Money Collectors; Peter Huntoon, a prolific 40-year researcher and author in the field; Lee Lofthus, an award-winning researcher and author in the field; and Jim Simek, secretary of the Professional Currency Dealers Association. The speakers will cover a wide range of topics. Anderson will offer observations on the relationship between capital formation needs and note issuance during the National Bank Note Era.

50th Anniversary Breakfast at Memphis 2011 - Day 1

The SPMC breakfast is an annual event at the Memphis International Paper Money Show. Breakfast tickets must be purchased in advance by contacting Wendell Wolka, P.O. Box 1211, Greenwood, IN, 46142. Please make checks and/or money orders payable to The Society of Paper Money Collectors, Inc. Tickets are $15 until May 15th, 2011. After that date, they are $18 per ticket. Order early since a sellout is expected. The Society's breakfast will include a brief awards presentation segment and the legendary Tom Bain raffle.

Paper Money Wins Awards

Paper Money, the official publication of SPMC, has added two more awards to a long history of excellence. Under the leadership of editor and publisher Fred Reed, Paper Money won the American Numismatic Association's 2010 award for Outstanding Club Publication for Specialty Clubs. The Numismatic Literary Guild honored Paper Money with its 2010 award for "Best Issue among Large Circulation Publications." This a category includes the ANA's Numismatist and the American Numismatic Society's ANS Magazine. Fred Reed has earned many awards in his distinguished career.

CSNS 72nd Annual Convention - Day 1

The Central States Numismatic Society's 72nd Anniversary Convention will be held in Rosemont, IL, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare and the Hyatt Regency Chicago O'Hare. The Donald E. Stephens Convention Center is located at 5555 North River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018, less than two miles from Chicago's O'Hare Airport. The Hyatt Regency Chicago O'Hare is located at 9300 West Byrn Mawr Avenue and is connected to the convention center via an enclosed skywalk.
